Rental, deposit & damage policy

The rules that keep every rental fair for renters and lenders.

1. The rental period

Rentals are booked around your event. When you request a booking, you pick the date (or dates) of your event. Collection is arranged for the day before the event and the item is returned the day after. Pricing is simple: each event day is charged at the listing's full daily rate in US dollars, and collection the day before and return the day after are included at no extra charge. If you need the item longer, message the lender before the rental ends — extensions must be agreed through the booking thread.

Shabbat handover times

RentWear observes Shabbat from Friday 5:00pm until Saturday 7:00pm, and no handover takes place during this window. Items are collected by 5:00pm on Friday and returned from 7:00pm on Saturday. This means Saturday night and Sunday events are collected on the Friday before, by 5:00pm — the item stays with you over the weekend at no extra charge.

2. Condition at handover

Lenders must list items accurately, including any existing flaws, and show them clearly in the listing photos. Renters should inspect the item at handover and raise any pre-existing damage in the booking thread straight away. Damage that was visible in the listing photos or noted at handover is not charged to the renter.

3. Security deposit

Every listing includes a refundable security deposit set by the lender. The deposit is held against the booking and is released back to the renter when the item is returned on time and in the same condition it was received. If the item is returned late, damaged or not returned at all, the lender may claim from the deposit and the rest is returned to the renter.

4. If an item is damaged

As soon as a lender notices damage, they should:

  1. Message the renter through the booking thread to explain the issue.
  2. Take clear photos of the damage and any relevant labels or packaging.
  3. Request admin support from the same booking thread if the issue cannot be resolved directly.

Renters should report damage on their side too — honesty is always treated more favourably than silence.

5. Late returns

If an item is returned after the agreed end date, the lender may charge an additional day's rental fee from the deposit for each day (or part day) the item is late. Repeated late returns may lead to account suspension.

6. Cleaning

Renters should return items in the state they received them. Light creasing and ordinary use are fine. If an item comes back with stains, odours or heavy soiling, the lender may claim the reasonable cost of professional cleaning from the deposit, supported by a receipt.

7. Assessment

Dedicated Taskers may consider:

  • Before-and-after photographs;
  • Repair costs;
  • Professional cleaning costs;
  • Item age;
  • Previous condition;
  • Reasonable value; and
  • Whether the Item remains rentable.

8. Loss or non-return

If an item is lost, stolen or never returned, the full replacement value of the item — as stated by the lender in the listing and reviewed by the RentWear admin team — is claimed from the deposit, and the lender may pursue the remaining balance where necessary.

9. How disputes are resolved

The RentWear admin team reviews damage claims, photos, messages and the deposit amount, then decides fairly how much of the deposit covers the damage and how much is returned to the renter. Our decision is final.

10. What is not covered

  • Normal wear such as light creasing or minor loose threads.
  • Damage that existed before the rental and was not shown in listing photos.
  • Loss or theft that happens outside the agreed rental period.
