Cancellation & refund policy
What happens when a booking is cancelled or changed.
1. Cancelling by a renter
Renters may cancel a booking through the booking thread or their bookings page. The timing of the cancellation determines the refund:
- More than 48 hours before the rental start date — full refund of the rental price.
- Between 24 and 48 hours before the rental start date — 50% refund of the rental price.
- Less than 24 hours before, or after the rental has started — no refund of the rental price.
Any refundable security deposit held against the booking is always returned in full when a renter cancels, because the item never left the lender's care.
2. Cancelling by a lender
If a lender cancels an accepted booking, the renter receives a full refund of the rental price and the security deposit, every time. Lenders should cancel as early as possible through the platform; repeated lender cancellations may lead to reduced visibility in search or suspension of the lending account.
3. Expiring requests
If a booking request is not accepted or declined by the lender within a reasonable time, it expires automatically and no charge is made. Renters are never charged for bookings that expire.
4. Changing a booking
Date changes must be agreed by both the renter and the lender through the booking thread. A change agreed before the original start date is not treated as a cancellation, and no cancellation fee applies. Extending a rental after it has started is arranged directly with the lender and charged as additional rental days.
5. Service fees
Where a refund is due, the RentWear service fee on the cancelled rental is refunded in the same proportion as the rental price. When no refund of the rental price is due (less than 24 hours before the start, or after the rental has started), the service fee is not refunded.
6. No-shows
If a renter does not collect or receive the item on the agreed start date and does not respond in the booking thread, the booking is treated as completed from the renter's side and no refund is due. If a lender is not available at the agreed handover, the renter should request admin support through the booking thread and will receive a full refund.
7. Deposit refunds
The security deposit is released back to the renter when the item is returned on time and in the same condition it was received. If a lender raises a damage, cleaning or late-return claim, only the disputed portion of the deposit is held until the RentWear admin team makes a decision — the rest is returned. Our decision on deposit claims is final and is explained in our rental, deposit & damage policy.
8. How refunds are paid
Refunds are issued in US dollars to the original payment method. Once a refund is approved it is processed promptly, but the time it takes to appear on your statement depends on your bank or payment provider.
9. Cancellations by RentWear
Dedicated Taskers may cancel a booking and refund the renter in full where a listing breaches our terms, an item is unavailable or misrepresented, or where we reasonably believe the rental cannot be completed safely or lawfully.
10. Questions and disputes
If you disagree with a cancellation decision or a refund amount, request admin support through the booking thread or contact us. The RentWear admin team reviews the booking messages, timestamps and photographs before making a final decision.
